For those who like absurd but highly original filmmaking then this film is undoubtedly for you. Roy Andersson’s filmmaking dismisses traditional convention with every turn; in doing so, he manages to mine remarkable humour and drama that have some critics comparing him to Jacques Tati and others to Gary Larson. Either way, his fixed camera positions with scenes drifting in and out; his bizarre verbal and physical gags and his constant shift from reality to fantasy mark him out as a genuine one-off. This film won Best Comedy at the European Film Awards and has been lauded by the critics. This may or may not be for you, but either way, it’s a film you’ll never forget.
