Main Cast: Birgit Minichmayr, Philipp Hochmair, Mona Petri

A collision with a sheep on a country road initiates a whole series of weird and unsettling experiences for couple Anna and Nick which ultimately leave them both incapable of being certain exactly where they are: in the real world, in their own imaginations – or in someone else’s imagination.

Full of haunting, nerve-jangling touches, Animals is not simply an exercise in spooky atmospherics, it works superbly as an unorthodox genre thriller and mind-bending mental puzzle. Crucially for a story that plays fast and loose with narrative sense, Zglinski maintains a tight grip on the suspense lever, keeping us guessing until the final scene and even afterwards. A treat for cinephiles.
