Directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov have constructed a little masterpiece with their film, Glory. Winning over 30 awards worldwide, the story revolves around Tsanko Petrov, a reclusive Bulgarian railway trackman, who finds a huge amount of cash spilled on the tracks and decides to turn it all in to the police. As organised by the Transport Ministry’s head of PR, the state rewards his actions with a new wristwatch in a ceremony designed as a diversion from a local corruption scandal. However, Petrov’s old watch appears to be lost and his increasingly desperate attempts to retrieve it see his simple life begin to unravel. An ingeniously crafted dramedy full of wit and biting satire, the acting in Glory is a joy from start to finish; but the work from Stefan Denolyubov (Petrov) and Margita Gosheva (Julia) is stand out and Margita will be in Kilkenny to present the film. Definitely one to catch.
