Terrified and bloody, Oscar Svendsen awakes in a stripper joint, wrapped around a shotgun. Around him, eight dead men, and gun-toting police. To Oscar it’s clear that he’s innocent. It all started when four chaps won 1.7 million Kroner on the pools…

Based on an original story by best-selling author, Jo Nesbø, Jackpot is a comedy in the realm of Tarantino’s absurd action universe. The movie is set in the border country between Norway and Sweden, where we meet a bunch of scruffy guys; Oscar, Thor, Billy and Tresko, who share a criminal past. They are working in a strange factory in the middle of nowhere producing plastic Christmas trees. But they are also gamblers. They’ve never won anything, until now… This is the story of the time they actually won 1,739,361 Norwegian Kroner. It is a number that proves impossible to divide into four equal parts…

Director Magnus Martens was selected as one of Variety’s Top Ten European Directors to Watch 2012

The Bottom Line:

Fargo meets Reservoir Dogs in this pitch-black comedy thriller, based on a story by best-selling author, Jo Nesbø. Seamless comic performances and razor sharp direction have marked this film out for special attention.
