Land of Mine is the gripping story of a group of young German soldiers who are captured by the Danish forces at the end of World War 2. The Allied forces give them a deadly task – removing their own land mines that they had set along the coast of Denmark. With no training and having to dig up and defuse land mines with their bare hands, this group of boys find out that the war is far from over. There is simply no way to look past the harsh realities of this film; it speaks to who we are and how human beings react to the harsh circumstances in which they find themselves.
This is a potent and superbly accomplished feature with an exceptional performance from Roland Møller at its heart; it is Denmark’s 2016 entry for The Academy Awards and Roland Møller will be in Kilkenny at the weekend to present the picture.
