I SERVED THE KING OF ENGLAND by Jiri Menzel
Original title: Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále
Language: Czech, German, French, English, Italian, Korean
Writer: Jirí Menzel (based on a novel by Bohumil Hrabel)
Main Cast: Ivan Barnev, Oldřich Kaiser, Julia Jentsch, Martin Huba, Marián Labuda, Milan Lasica, Josef Abrhám,

Told in flashback, the film charts the wildly varying fortunes – and loves – of a young opportunist who, for a time, finds himself in the favour of German forces occupying his homeland.

The Hollywood Reporter declared it “A sumptuously told tale…mixing high comedy, surreal sequences and genuine drama”

The Bottom Line:

Jirí Menzel’s stunningly photographed film is an absurd Czech comedy about greed, ambition and indifference. It features a heroic, mesmerising, central performance by Ivan Barnev.
