    Original Title: Moartea domnului Lăzărescu
    Language: Romanian
    Writer: Cristi Puiu, Razvan Radulescu
Main Cast: Ioan Fiscuteanu, Luminita Gheorghiu

In this film an old man (Ioan Fiscuteanu) is carried by an ambulance from hospital to hospital all night long, as doctors keep refusing to treat him and send him away. Peter Bradshaw, in his five star review, says this is “a blacker-than-black, deader-than-deadpan comedy with something of the documentary style of Frederick Wiseman and something also of Samuel Beckett.”

The Bottom Line:

This inspired comic satire on the health service was winner in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes Film Festival and also won a string of awards for its (co)-writer / director Cristi Puiu. The naturalistic detail of the performances and the consistent style of the unfolding storyline help to make this a classic of Romanian film.
