    Original Title: Snackbar
    Language: Dutch, Arabic, Turkish
    Writer: Stan Lapinski
Main Cast: Ali Cifteci, Nazmiye Oral, Dileria Horuz, Esra Horuz

This snackbar is owned by Ali. In a suburb of a large Dutch city, it is a refuge for the local Moroccan youth. They are ferocious, violent and criminal. To them Ali is like an old, trustworthy Turkish uncle; understanding, funny but also strict. But what if Ali, with his addiction to backgammon, jeopardizes all of this? Snackbar is a film, which is as hard, funny, tragic, wild and unpredictable as life itself.

The Bottom Line:

A fascinating debut from director Meral Uslu whose documentary history gives her a great eye for authenticity. This is a film which uncovers street life in a Rotterdam suburb; it is funny, scary and casually shocking as the Snackbar plays host to the lives lost in a cycle of casual violence. Featuring a standout performance by Turkish actor Ali Cifteci.
