Set in a remote Icelandic farming valley, a harsh environment where only sheep and stubborn bearded men seem to be able to survive, this bittersweet drama is a typical Icelandic mix of dark and light.
This film concerns two brothers, ‘Gummi’ and ‘Kiddi’, who nurse a fervent hatred for each other despite being neighbours. Their lives are turned upside down when they discover scrapie among the sheep, a lethal and highly contagious disease. This discovery forces them closer together and we see the lengths they go to avoid each other. With true Icelandic spirit they try their best to maintain their independence and go their separate ways. The results are both hilarious and tragic, winning the film dozens of awards and prizes throughout the world.
